“The Hound of the Baskervilles” by Tim Kelly brings a spine-chilling Sherlock Holmes mystery to life with suspense, humor and haunting. Follow along as the famous sleuth casts suspicion on sinister servants, ladies in distress and escaped convicts to find out who wrote the letter that summoned the hound to which Sir Henry, heir to the Baskerville fortune, would soon succumb.
“This is actually an adaptation that is slightly different from the original story,” said Wes Jones, who plays John Watson. “They’re going to find some twists in the play.”
Although CF Theatre’s performance comes long after the setting of the original play, there is little that needs to change, as Sherlock is known as a “timeless classic.”
“I think that there is nothing really to modernize about Sherlock Holmes,” added Collin Williams, who plays the titular detective. “I think Sherlock Holmes is enjoyed by everyone of all time periods, and they can appreciate it for what it is.”
The magic of a play does not come only from the actors. There is a lot that goes into the process of making a play for an audience to enjoy. The costumes, for example, can convey a lot about the story, especially the time period in which it is set.
“When you are doing a smaller production like this where there are only 10 characters,” Veronica McGrath stated about the costume design, “it can take two months-ish. We started mid-August, and it’s October, so it’s just about two months.”
Truth will come to sight; murder cannot be hidden long. Thy moment is fleeting to get thy tickets! It’s elementary, my dear Watson.
