Lecanto, Fla. (October 29, 2025) – Midday Wednesday, the CF Citrus Campus Student Activities Board, or SAB, and REACH group welcomed students and staff to their Día de los Muertos event.
The event was filled with activities and fun – all centered around celebrating Mexican culture and the traditions of Día de los Muertos. Some students even opted to dress up using face paint and flower crowns to pay homage to traditional Day of the Dead themes.
No event would be complete without music, and a local band, Gypsy Sparrow, was a hit amongst participants. The musical duo had scannable flyers that allowed students to check out their song list and send in requests. This interactive feature had everyone involved. Gypsy Sparrow even passed the mics to students and staff for karaoke. Everyone was singing along to the nostalgic hits – everything from Taylor Swift to Bruno Mars.

An important part of any culture is the food, and the SAB and REACH groups made sure to highlight that. There was a variety of foods to choose from, including taquitos, pork tacos, guava pastries and horchata to drink – free for all students and staff to enjoy.

There was also an arts and crafts table for anyone wanting to put their creativity to the test. The pavilion’s covered tables were lined with a variety of paints, paper for any spills and ceramic skulls to decorate.

In addition to the festivities, the event also served as a blood drive, with Halloween-themed gifts available for donors.

This Día de los Muertos event honored Mexican tradition, brought students together and created shared moments of joy through arts and music. With so many special moments, it’s something students will want to experience for themselves when it returns next year.
