In honor of Earth Day, the College of Central Florida Ocala Campus held an Earth Day celebration. This event took place on April 22 during activity hour, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. During this event, students were given the opportunity to make a recycled dog toy and donate old electronics. Students were also asked to bring any clothing they no longer wore to trade with others, in an effort to recycle clothing and keep it out of landfills.
According to NASA.gov, habitat loss is one of the leading causes of animal endangerment. Over one million sea creatures die each year due to plastics and trash in the ocean. It is estimated that over 8 million tons of plastic are added to the ocean each year. These are far from adequate living conditions for sea life.
Whether it be recycling, picking up trash or, in this case, trading clothes with fellow students, each person can play a part in the health of the earth. The College of Central Florida is doing its part in creating a healthier environment for tomorrow. Through events like this one, CF is bringing awareness to this issue and making a step towards change. This type of creativity is exactly what’s needed to encourage others to participate in making the world a healthier place.
