From April. 1 through April. 3, the College of Central Florida Ocala Campus
hosted a blood drive, as they do about every two months. CF gets approximately 30 donors per drive. Since one pint of blood saves two to three lives, the students of CF are saving approximately 90 lives each blood drive.
This blood drive was conducted by One Blood, an organization dedicated to saving lives since 2012.
They partner with the American Red Cross to encourage people to
donate blood.
Many individuals count on these blood donations to give them life. More than
25% of these donations are used for patients battling cancer. Various medical
procedures require blood transfusions, and many mothers require blood
transfusions due to blood loss during childbirth. These are just a few
examples of situations in which an individual may need a blood transfusion.
Every two seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion. Blood is
only usable for a limited amount of time, which is why it must be used
promptly. Blood cannot be made outside of the body; this is why there is such
a high need for donations.
The College of Central Florida is doing its part in supporting the community
and helping patients get the blood they need. 30 to 40 minutes is all that is
needed from students to save a life. Look out for announcements of future
blood drives at CF and save a life.
